The Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities is publishing several voter education policy briefs ahead of and during the 2024 election season to address common questions about voter registration processes, election security, and election law.

The series begins with the release of three new policy briefs that provide a detailed look into Nevada’s voter registration procedures, the state’s newly implemented Voter Registration and Election Management Solution (VREMS), and the mail ballot process. These briefs, among many topics, highlight Nevada’s ongoing efforts to provide secure elections, streamline voter registration processes, and maintain accurate voter lists.

The first brief, Voter Registration Procedure, Security, and List Maintenance – An FAQ, outlines how Nevadans can register to vote, provides a breakdown of voter eligibility criteria and identification requirements, explains Nevada’s compliance with federal laws like the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), and the state’s use of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) to help keep voter rolls accurate.

Nevada’s VREMS for Voter Registration Management, the second brief in this series, introduces Nevada’s new Voter Registration and Election Management Solution (VREMS), a centralized system aimed at improving the efficiency and security of voter registration across the state.

Our brief on mail ballots provides an overview of Nevada's mail ballot system, explaining its procedures, requirements, and processing steps.

These policy briefs are available for download on our website, with more publications -- tackling topics like canvassing procedures -- expected in the coming weeks.
